Great idea in the abstract, but I can tell you the work involved in rewriting basically *all* existing computer software that works with dates in some way (probably most of it) would be incredible... far worse than the tedious work involved in the year 2000 mess.
It's not as if you can just throw away the old code either, of course -- we'd still have to handle the old method for all dates BEFORE the switchover date.
But hey, he'd have an easier time with his class schedules!
